XC Ski Headquarters Cross Country Ski Report – 04/09

Best snow we have ever had in April!

As of 7am this morning it was 21F, and as if we were in January or February, the high today is 28F with flurries expected – which means great skiing all day WITHOUT a slushy afternoon. We had a great turnout yesterday with skiers from all over the Midwest amazed by the great ski conditions on our 5 kilometers Highlands Trail (parts of the Tall Pines, Wild Turkey and Adventure Trails and all of the Rolling Hills trail). Conditions are great with deep, firm tracks, and wide skate lanes. Groomer Bob will ginzu snowcomb the skate lanes this morning, dicing up the refrozen snow to perfection, and ready by 10am. We now have over 10 inches of snow in the woods and 4 to 6 packed on the trail. Another 3-5 inches of snow expected tomorrow!

Forecast:

Today: Mostly cloudy. A few flurries or snow showers possible. High 28F. Winds NNW at 10 to 15 mph.

Tonight: artly cloudy skies early followed by periods of snow showers late. Low 14F. Winds SE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of snow 80%. About one inch of snow expected.

Sunday: Snow showers early, with a steadier snow developing late in the day. Some sleet or freezing rain possible. High 34F. Winds SSE at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of snow 80%. 3 to 5 inches of snow expected.
