XC Ski Headquarters Cross Country Ski Report – 01/30

A dusting of snow yesterday morning plus another dusting of snow last night is mixing with the tilled-up hardpack nicely and making for a better snow consistency and skiing-speed. Tractor Bob set tracks on the The John Deere Trail (just over 2km) yesterday with good results in most spots, but shallow tracks in other spots. Groomer Stu will ginzu-snowcomb the John Deere Trail this morning. More snow is also on the way this week (finally)! The rest of the trails are icy with bare spots, and should be used for snow-shoeing only. For those who want to venture off the John Deere Trail, we are offering FREE SNOW SHOE RENTALS on the trails today!

Groomer Mike will also be out on the trail today moving more man-made snow out to the trail in an effort to add to our base, and make the ski conditions as nice as possible for the weekend. Because of the snow-moving effort, during the day designated spots of the trail will have detours.

Mark you calendars for this Saturday: Ski the Beer Trail with Paddle Hard Brewing and Michigan Search & Rescue! Join us for a day of delicious craft beer on the ski trails! Paddle Hard Brewing of Grayling will bring their hops to the snow at Trapper’s Cabin, where skiers and snow-shoers can try some of Michigan’s most excellent craft beer and enjoy a gourmet barbecue with locally made beer brats. Plus, stick around to meet the Michigan Search and Rescue team! Michigan Search and Rescue provides services for missing persons response, specifically canine search teams, at no cost.

See you at HQ!
