XC Ski Headquarters Cross Country Ski Report – 02/02
We received just about an inch of snow last night, and we are very pleased to say that it really looks like winter again up here in Higgins Lake! Groomer Mike set classic tracks on the John Deere Loop yesterday afternoon, and he will snow comb again this morning. He will also attempt to snow comb the Rolling Hills trail and possibly some of the other trails on our trail system – stay tuned. With more snow in the forecast, today, tomorrow and Sunday, we are looking forward to very good to great conditions for the weekend. The practice area will be snow combed as well, and is open for lessons and demos. Let it keep snowing!
Forecast:
Today: Cloudy with snow showers mainly during the morning. High 13F. Winds W at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of snow 50%. About one inch of snow expected.
Tonight: Cloudy skies. A few flurries or snow showers possible. Low 8F. Winds WSW at 5 to 10 mph.

Today’s Stone Turtle Cafe lunch special is the Wild Turkey Panini! Sliced turkey breast, basil pesto, sun dried tomatoes, spinach, and provolone cheese, grilled on Stone House 7-Grain bread. Served with Great Lakes Chips and a dill pickle spear. Classic and Veggie Chili are always a hit, too!
See you tomorrow for Ski the Beer Trail with Paddle Hard Brewing and Michigan Search & Rescue! Join us for a day of delicious craft beer on the ski trails! Paddle Hard Brewing of Grayling will bring their hops to the snow at Trapper’s Cabin, where skiers and snow-shoers can try some of Michigan’s most excellent craft beer and enjoy a gourmet barbecue with locally made beer brats. Plus, stick around to meet the Michigan Search and Rescue team! Michigan Search and Rescue provides services for missing persons response, specifically canine search teams, at no cost. Click here for more details!
Racers and non-racers should also head over to the White Pine Stampede at Shanty Creek in Bellaire, tomorrow, February 3rd! There are distances for all abilities, plus awesome post-race food and beer. Every finisher gets a medal!
Get outdoors and enjoy the winter weather this weekend!
