ABR Trails Cross Country Ski Report – 01/10

Thursday 6 PM

The new cold lake effect snow groomed up well this morning. We groomed all 75 km. Ridge Runner was groomed classic best line and will be left as classic until Sunday or Monday. We will not be regrooming tonight or early AM since the conditions are perfect. Deep tracks and firm skate lanes. If we get more than an inch of snow overnight we will regroom in the AM. Read the past reports on SISU ski fest for Saturday’s activites. Friday the ski trail closes at 4:30 PM for race prep, but will be open all day.

ABR Ski Trails

ABR Ski Trails improved its first responder skills and tools this winter with the help of several local groups.

The SISU Ski Fest helped fund the purchase of an Orion Rescue sled. This rescue sled is fully suspended and designed for rescue. It has a cover to protect the patient from the elements and give them a smooth ride to the ambulance.

Joel Bach, a local paramedic, taught a Heartsaver CPR class to 13 of the ABR Ski Trails team of employees, volunteers and friends. We have plans to have a First Aid and Stop the Bleed program for the team this spring/summer.

A Michigan Rural Health Grant provided several AED units for the local school systems, law enforcement and ABR Trails.

Alicia Zazeski, a paramedic and groomer for ABR, set up a trauma bag and first responder kit that was mounted and labeled on the wall in the trailhead cabin of ABR.

Additionally, Eric Anderson and Angela Santini, owners of ABR, purchased a snowmobile dedicated to pull the rescue sled and we will be erecting a small dedicated shelter for housing the snowmobile and sled.

You guys did a fantastic job rescuing me without all this gear - thank you again for all you do. I will try very hard not to need another rescue, even though that sled looks pretty awesome. :)

Fabulous news and so smart!

I am glad we can pay it forward and Play it forward. Kudos to all involved.

Great news...Thank you all !!!:^)

ABR Ski Trails

Wrapping up a great season. We want to say a BIG thank you to all our skiing friends for a wonderful season. Have a great summer and we'll see you next winter!!

PS.....We do plan on grooming the dog friendly trails (across the road) and maybe Memory Lane (5+ K) for another week or 2 on a casual basis; you can watch the website for details. However the Ski Shop, Rental shop, wax room, indoor rest rooms, and ABR main parking area are closed for the season. The Dog Trails parking lot will be open for parking until they are closed and there will be a porta potty available there. Daylight skiing or snowshoeing only, no walking on the trails, no ski patrol or rescue available, and no chalet. Please don’t use the ABR Drive way or Parking lot for any purpose. I am having a hard time selling the extension of grooming past closing (the North) to Angela….so the South side of Pioneer Road is closed until “Winter Returns.” North end is open until posted and will be groomed by Volunteers with a donation box for fuel.
