XC Ski Headquarters Cross Country Ski Report – 01/29

We received the biggest snow in years over the course of the last 24 hours, with 8 to 10 inches of total snow and more in places that weren’t exposed to the wind. Groomers Mike and Butch were at it for most of the day yesterday, rolling the trails in an effort to pack down the snow as it came down. We received more snow overnight and it continues to snow, so this morning they will continue to roll until everything is good and packed, and follow up with the Ginzu snow comber and track setter. There is 20 to 22 inches of snow in the woods, and after the grooming, 14 to 16 inches packed on the trails. For a truly magical experience, grab your skis or snowshoes, bundle up, and explore this rare-seen winter wonderland!
Weather Forecast:
Today: Cloudy with snow showers developing for the afternoon. High 11F. Winds SW at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of snow 50%.
Tonight: Cloudy with snow showers developing after midnight. Low -6F. Winds WSW at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of snow 50%. Snow accumulations less than one inch.
Tomorrow: Scattered snow showers during the morning. Then partly to mostly cloudy for the afternoon. High -1F. Winds W at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of snow 40%.

Today’s Stone Turtle Cafe lunch special is Bob’s Favorite Tuna Panini! Albacore tuna, black olives, jalepenos, banana peppers, spinach, onions and tomatoes served hot and melty on a Swiss Roll. Served with chips and a pickle. You may want to add a bowl of chili on a day like today!

As XC skiers, we live for snow like this. There is nothing so spellbindingly beautiful as skiing through the forest, on a frozen lake, or in any natural surrounding amongst this much snow. We hope you are able to get out and experience this true Michigan Winter!

All the best,

-Mariah, Stu, Bob, Lynne, Erin, Matt, Missy, Gillian, Molly, Annie H., Katrina, Annie B., Grant, Josh, Michelle, Krista, Crystal, Mike, Butch, Tony and the crew
