The Roscommon Junior Nordic Ski Team will be competing in the 27th Annual Junior Muffin Race tomorrow! All kids 19 and under are encouraged to attend!!

After beautiful sunny skies and great skiing yesterday, the trails remain in very good to great shape. Groomer Mike snow combed the skating lanes on Trapper’s Cabin, Mackinaw Cut, Wild Turkey, Manitou, and Rolling Hills last night, and reset some tracks where needed. The conditions will be fantastic this morning and in the early afternoon, as the wet weather isn’t supposed to hit us until 3pm or so. Snow is in the forecast for tomorrow, and temps cool down again tomorrow night, so we are confident that our strong base will hold up well during the little warm spell tonight. Snow depth in the woods is 24 to 27 inches, and packed on the trail about 13 to 15 inches.

Tonight: Periods of rain. Thunder possible. Low 31F. Winds SE at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 100%.
Tomorrow: Rain and snow in the morning. Light snow and windy in the afternoon. Morning high of 40F with temps falling to near 30. Winds WSW at 20 to 30 mph. Chance of rain 70%. Snowfall around one inch. Winds could occasionally gust over 40 mph.

Join us for the Muffin Race, Sunday, Feb 24th!

The longest standing Junior race in Michigan, the Muffin Race celebrates the fun of youth skiing with a Junior Girls & Boys Team Sprint Relay race. Inspired by the Gold Medal victory by Jessie Diggins and Kikkan Randall in the 2018 Olympics, this freestyle relay race will feature two skiers per relay team. Each skier will ski a total of 3 laps around a 1km course, handing off to their teammate between each lap, totaling 6 laps per team. Registration begins at 9:30am on Sunday, and we will shoot for a 10:30am start. This is a Michigan Cup Junior Race. Medals will be awarded to the top 3 finishers in the girls division, boys division, and coed division, and awards will also be given for best costumes!

After the Muffin Team Sprint Relay Race, we will hold three Mini Muffin freestyle races: Ages 6 years and under, 7 to 9 and 10 to 12. All racers 12 and under will be awarded a medal!

There is a $10 entry fee for Muffin Racers 13 and older. There is no entry fee for the Mini Muffin Racers. All racers receive a Pig Roast lunch at the awards ceremony. The Pig Roast is $5 for anyone else who might be hungry too. All racers and family members who partake in the Pig Roast will also receive a complimentary 1-day XC SKI HQ facilities pass.
