XC Ski Headquarters Cross Country Ski Report – 03/18

Andy and Warren used these great spring conditions to start training for next year’s ski races!

It was a great weekend of spring skiing at HQ under lots of sunny skies and very comfortable temps. It is still getting quite cold at night, so Groomer Mike will snow comb all trails this morning. Morning conditions will be fast and fun, with some icy spots appearing in some of the heavily skied areas. Later in the day as things warm up, the snow will soften up. The best skating can be found on the Rolling Hills trail, and the best tracks can be found on Wild Turkey. As per usual this time of year, the trail head is starting to get a bit slick, so please walk out past the ice to get started. Also, the Manitou trail has several considerable ice bridges, and should be avoided unless you are comfortable traversing sections of glare ice. Conditions change on a daily basis this time of year, so watch out for bits of debris on the trail underneath the big trees, and exercise caution when skiing down all hills!

Today’s lunch special is Rocky Mountain Chipotle Turkey Sandwich! Oven roasted turkey, Swiss cheese, chipotle mayo, spinach, onion, bell peppers and tomato, grilled to perfection on hearty grain bread. Great Lakes Chips and a pickle come with it for maximal enjoyment!

Ski while there’s snow!
