XC Ski Headquarters Cross Country Ski Report – 01/02

What a fantastic start to the new year! Conditions are great for classic and skating on the Rolling Hills, Mackinaw Cut, Wild Turkey, Trapper’s Cabin, and Manitou trails, which have tracks set and will be snowcombed this morning. The weather is looking good for the week ahead, too, with more snow and cool temps in the forecast. Tall Pines and Adventure are open, but are not groomed due parts of the ground underneath the snow being too wet for heavy machinery. Skiers are welcome to stop at Trapper’s Cabin today for a hot cocoa, snack and bonfire from 11am to 3pm. Snow depth packed on the trail is 2 to 6 inches, and in the woods is about 6 to 8 inches.

After your ski, head to the Stone Turtle Cafe for lunch, and enjoy a delicious panini sandwich, or perhaps the Manitou Burrito Bowl, Beyond the Trail Burger, or a piping hot bowl of chili. Fresh baked chocloate chip cookies, muffins, and other snacks are also available, as well as craft beer, wine, and cocktails. Or, bring your own picnic! Find a seat in front of the giant, fieldstone fireplace in the Stone Turtle Day Lodge, or outside in the heated ice dome igloo.
