XC Ski Headquarters Cross Country Ski Report – 01/09

We received more snow during the day yesterday, and conditions remain very good for skating and classic skiing on the Trappers Cabin, Mackinaw Cut, Wild Turkey, Manitou, and Rolling Hills trails, with firm tracks set and a fresh Ginzu snow comb as of this morning. The Tall Pines and Adventure trails are still too wet to groom, and are closed until the moisture beneath the snow freezes. Snow depth packed on the trail is 3 to 5 inches, and snow depth in the woods is 5 to 8 inches. Looking like a big weekend for snow on tap, plus lots of great events, so plan your trip to come cross country skiing at XC Ski HQ!

After skiing, enjoy a delicious lunch at the Stone Turtle Cafe! Chef Will is ready to make you a gourmet panini sandwich or burrito bowl, or enjoy another specialty like Classic and Chipotle Veggie chili, plus a range of tasty snacks and craft beverages.
THIS WEEKEND

Saturday is Winter Trails Day! Bring your friends and family for a free group ski lesson, facilities pass, and hot dog lunch on the ski trails, plus discounted rental rates for XC Skiing and Snowshoeing. Pre-registration is required, call 800-832-2663 to sign up.

Plus, join us this Saturday at 10:30 for the Free Beginner Ski Lesson, and from noon until 3pm for Padre Tacos! Local foodie and taco connoisseur, David Rice, will make a special appearance at the Stone Turtle Day Lodge this Saturday to prepare the gourmet tacos for all of you hungry skiers! Slow roasted meat, delicious beans, along with an assortment of flavorful toppings will ignite your taste buds and leave you a Padre Taco addict. Plus, don’t miss the Free Saturday Ski Lesson at 10:30am!

This Sunday, join us for Paella and Live Music! A favorite XC Ski HQ tradition, Paella on the Sun Deck celebrates a world-renowned, Spanish rice dish, and offers skiers a hearty, flavorful (and entertaining!) feast. Prepared in a massive cast iron pan over an outdoor fire pit, this lunch comes from an authentic Spanish recipe from Paella master Ayo from Nerja, Spain, and is served piping hot with Saffron-spiced chicken, shrimp, mussels and vegetables, this dish will be presented in two seatings: 1:00pm and 3:00pm. Plus, enjoy the amazing music of guitar player and singer, Chris Foresteri, playing live in the Stone Turtle Day Lodge in the afternoon.

See you up north for fun in the snow!
