XC Ski Headquarters Cross Country Ski Report – 01/11

We received about an inch of snow overnight, and it is supposed to continue snowing for the rest of the day and overnight tonight. Groomer Mike will Ginzu snow comb this morning, and continue grooming throughout the day as needed to keep up with any accumulation. The best conditions this morning will be on the Trappers Cabin and Rolling Hills trails, followed by the Manitou and Wild Turkey trails. Adventure and Tall Pines will not be groomed until more snow falls. We are looking forward to Winter Trails Day, the Free Saturday Ski Lesson, and Padre Tacos, all happening today at XC Ski HQ!

Join us for this weekend’s events!

SATURDAY EVENTS:

-Winter Trails Day! Adults and children who are new to XC skiing and snowshoeing are invited to participate in a complimentary group lesson, facilities pass, and hot dog cookout. Rentals are also available for a special discounted rate. Pre-registration for this event is required, so call 800-832-2663 to sign up. Check-in is at 10:00am. Bring your friends and family for a fantastic day onthe snow, and discover how fun winter in Northern Michigan can be!

-Saturday Free Beginner Ski Lesson: 10:30am. All are welcome, no sign-up required. Equipment rentals available.

-Saturday from 2pm until 3pm: Padre Tacos! Local foodie and taco connoisseur, David Rice, will make a special appearance at the Stone Turtle Day Lodge this Saturday to prepare the gourmet tacos for all of you hungry skiers! Slow roasted meat, delicious beans, along with an assortment of flavorful toppings will ignite your taste buds and leave you a Padre Taco addict.
SUNDAY:

Paella and Live Music! A favorite XC Ski HQ tradition, Paella on the Sun Deck celebrates a world-renowned, Spanish rice dish, and offers skiers a hearty, flavorful (and entertaining!) feast. Prepared in a massive cast iron pan over an outdoor fire pit, this lunch comes from an authentic Spanish recipe from Paella master Ayo from Nerja, Spain, and is served piping hot with Saffron-spiced chicken, shrimp, mussels and vegetables, this dish will be presented in two seatings: 1:00pm and 3:00pm. Plus, enjoy the amazing music of guitar player and singer, Chris Foresteri, playing live in the Stone Turtle Day Lodge from 1pm to 3pm.

Enjoy this great day on snow!
