The Roscommon Junior Nordic Ski Team has been training hard, and results show it! The top three junior men currently leading the Michigan Cup are all Roscommon athletes!

We received another dusting of snow last night. The trails, which have plenty of snow coverage, turned a bit slick yesterday afternoon after the high moisture on top of the snow froze. Groomer Mike will use his grooming magic this morning to chew up the crust in the skating lanes, which should yield softer, yet still firm, conditions. The classic tracks were set on Friday, and are quite firmly entrenched into the snow surface at this time. They are still good in some spots, while other spots are slick. There are 4 to 6 inches of snow packed on the trails, and 6 to 10 inches in the woods.

After your ski, enjoy a hot lunch at the Stone Turtle Cafe! Warm up with a bowl of chili, panini sandwich, burrito bowl, or the plant-based Beyond the Trail Burger. Sip a craft beer or glass of wine in front of the fireplace!

Sunday, Feb 2nd: Bob’s Bean Bomb Cooking Demo and Nacho Bar! Yes, you read that right. Bob Frye, creator of Bob’s Bean Bomb, invites YOU to learn how to make Bean Bomb for yourself! Watch him start from scratch with pinto beans, jalapenos, bacon, and other secret ingredients, and cook it up on a giant cast iron skillet over the fire pit. When it all comes together, grab a plate and head to the Nacho Bar to build your own platter of Bean Bomb nachos. Please, no cameras or videos during the cooking show – you will be sworn to secrecy!

Next Weekend… Saturday, February 8th: The Mason Tract Point-to-Point Rendezvous! Join us in a point-to-point ski tour of beloved local trail, the Mason Tract. This groomed (classic only) nine mile, intermediate level trail winds along an undeveloped stretch of the AuSable River. The scenery is pristine and beautiful, and skiing through it is a quintessential Northern Michigan winter experience.
