XC Ski Headquarters Cross Country Ski Report – 02/02

Katrina and some thirsty skiers at the far end of the Blizzard Trail, sipping Cabrenet, Pinot Noir, and Merlot at the North American Wine Station at yesterday’s Wine and Ski Tour!

We received snow throughout the entire day yesterday, and more last night. Groomer Mike will snow comb the skate lanes and reset tracks where possible this morning. Conditions for skating and classic are fabulous, even though it may soften up as the day progresses. There are 4 to 6 inches of snow packed on the trails, and 7 to 11 inches in the woods. The Around the World Wine and Ski Tour was a blast yesterday, with great wine, tasty snacks, and very fun times! Join us for Bob’s Bean Bomb today at noon!

Have a delicious lunch today at the Stone Turtle Cafe! Chili, panini sandwiches, burrito bowls, or the plant-based Beyond the Trail Burger awaits. Sip a Peppermint Patty or Fireside Cider in front of the fireplace, or outside in the Ice Dome Igloo! Plus, demo one of our 40+ ski packages today! Lots to choose from in recreational classic, skin skis, back country, skate skis, and kids ski packages. Best of all, you’ll get expert ski-fitting help, available all day, every day. Demos are always free!

Upcoming Events:

Today at Noon: Bob’s Bean Bomb Cooking Demo and Nacho Bar! Yes, you read that right. Bob Frye, creator of Bob’s Bean Bomb, invites YOU to learn how to make Bean Bomb for yourself! Watch him start from scratch with pinto beans, jalapenos, bacon, and other secret ingredients, and cook it up on a giant cast iron skillet over the fire pit. When it all comes together, grab a plate and head to the Nacho Bar to build your own platter of Bean Bomb nachos. Please, no cameras or videos during the cooking show – you will be sworn to secrecy!

Next Weekend… Saturday, February 8th: The Mason Tract Point-to-Point Rendezvous! Join us in a point-to-point ski tour of beloved local trail, the Mason Tract. This groomed (classic only) nine mile, intermediate level trail winds along an undeveloped stretch of the AuSable River. The scenery is pristine and beautiful, and skiing through it is a quintessential Northern Michigan winter experience. Click here for more information, and to pre-register. *Participants must be able to complete this 9 mile trail before 5:00pm. Lodging and dinner specials are available for participants at Gates Lodge and AuSable Riverview Resort, both located on the main branch of the Ausable River!

Enjoy these great conditions!
