Team XC Ski HQ – 2020 Michigan Cup and Brumbaugh Cup Champions!

It was a tremendously fun weekend at HQ, with a great day of skiing on Saturday, and the Michigan Cup Relays on Sunday. Racers from all over the state – and a few from Canada, Pennsylvania, and other states – skied a 6km course on snow that held up amazingly well despite 50 degree temps and sunny skies. The after party was exceedingly fun, with lunch, live music, awards, and of course, excellent camaraderie. As one newer racer to the Michigan Cup scene observed, "Cross country skiers are just the coolest!"

A major highlight in the festivities was Team XC Ski HQ winning the highly coveted Michigan Cup (for the team who scores the most points in a season) and Brumbaugh Cup (for the team with the best skiers). Both cups had alluded Team HQ for years, and after a enormous team effort all season long, and especially at the Relays (HQ fielded 20 relay teams!), Team HQ solidly came away with victories. We would like to thank our fearless Team Captain, Frank Rynalski, for inspiring this incredible comeback, as well as all XCHQ racers, whose races – long, short, fast and slow – contributed the points needed to bring home the Cups. A big thanks, too, to all Michigan Cup organizers, scorers, race hosts, teams and racers for creating and contributing to the vibrant community of ski racers we have here in Michigan.

Now, for the trail report! With 40 degree temps last night, and warm, wet conditions in the forecast today, there will be no grooming this morning. While parts of the trails will make for decent crust skiing, there are soft, wet, thin, and icy spots out there, so use caution. These are the conditions that can be expected for the forseeable future, so there will be no daily ski report sent out until conditions change.
