Valley Spur Trail System Cross Country Ski Report – 03/19

Groomed up some skate lanes this morning. Tracks are still well formed but icy early till it warms a bit. Looks like some fresh snow for the weekend so we can maybe due a full groom Saturday morning and it should make for a great weekend of skiing.

<>

Dan groomed skate lanes this a.m., so skating was very good. Groomed, A, B, C, C Y and W.

<>

03 / 18 / 20

No grooming today at Valley Spur. Yesterday mornings groom should be holding up very well. Even though due to the Covid-19 out break and the lodge will be closed, we will continue to groom as needed.

<>

03 / 17 / 20

Received a nice dusting of fresh snow overnight.Did an abbreviated groom this morning on A,B,C,D,G,H,Y and W.

Trails are really nice right now. Skate lanes are flat and firm and the classic tracks are well formed and deep. Get it while you can!

Take care everyone.

Valley Spur Trail System - Hiawatha National Forest

Friends of Valley Spur are following NTN's lead and ending the grooming of the ski trails at Valley Spur. It was a great ski season. Take care all. This is where we unfortunately have to tell you that grooming is being deemed not essential under the Governor's Stay Home order. We are sending our grooming crew out to clean everything up tonight before the order goes into effect so it will be a great day tomorrow! To our local trail users, pease enjoy it and make the most of it. Staff and board members are continuing to advocate at the state level to allow our local trail organizations to groom and if something changes we will let you know. Hard thaw-freeze cycles in the next few weeks may render the trails impassable and limit our outdoor social distancing options. With feet of snow on the ground it will be many weeks before trails are usable for other activities which is different than other areas of the state. If you have concerns, please voice them to
Governor Gretchen Whitmer 's office and with our U.P. legislators.

Get outside. Stay healthy. Be safe.

NTN needed approval from the local Twp. which they now have and will continue grooming with volunteers as weather allows. VS is requesting this from our local Twp. So if the weather cooperates we may be able to groom. Stay tuned.

Thank you to all the groomers and volunteers for a great ski season! Stay safe and ski you next year!

Thank you for all of your extra hard work this year keeping the trails in great shape. It’s definitely been a challenging season.

Thanks so much for keeping the trails open and groomed for so long during this crazy time. It’s much appreciated!

The deck at the Spur was nice for skating today. When we finished we were told of the governor’s order and figured it might be our last ski of the season. Thank you groomers for your work this winter!

Beautiful warm sunshine today. I must go investigate and see what tracks are left!!

Thank you for the beautiful season!

This year was our first time that we joined as season members. It was so worth it! These are the best trails in Michigan! Thank you for all of your time and hard work! Love our time up there!

Wow! That really stinks. Groomers are typically on a snowmobile or in a vehicle by themselves so isn’t that practicing social distancing?

So bummed, I was planning an early April trip, but not now, with the mandate in effect. Haven’t left our residence in 8 days now.
