Noquemanon Trail Network Cross Country Ski Report – 12/22
Skiing yesterday was delightful; light air, steady snow falling and mild temperatures. By 1:00 PM there was about two inches of fluffy snow on top of a firm base; nature’s grooming at its best. If we could get just that amount of snow every day grooming would not be needed. I do hope you got out.
The best skiing was on the (so called) “Mead” by pass from Co Rd 510 to the first cabin on the right. That is about 4k so an out and back give one an 8k “loop”. Beyond that first 4k the adventurous skier can turn left and climb the steep hill and continue over the next two hills to meet up with the regular Noque’ trail in about 1k. This area should be good again today. Tomorrow’s warmer temperatures may cause this section to become crusty so you had best put off that sox drawer organizing project and ski today. Plenty of time for the busy work tomorrow. New snow is forecast for later in the week so not to worry.
Please do not continue down the road to the east. There is a gate and NTN respects the land owner’s wishes to keep this road private. NTN works with land owners to promote responsible forest use. Please help us to be good neighbors by not crossing gates or fences. Most of NTN’s trails are on private land. We have this vast trail network because land owners know we will promote respectful use of their land. Thank you for letting me be serious for a moment.
Now, back to drivel. The smart guys and gals will take today’s opportunity for a “two-fer”. Surf is up and wind is down. With the air temp at 21f it looks like the 6 mil suit is needed. It is surprising how much colder it is at 21 than 30. Skiing looks to be the back end of the two-fer but Mark has another idea. Chatting with him on the trail yesterday his plan was to lash skis to his pack and fat bike from town up to about 17k to ski 510 and back. It seems the trifecta would be sweet but late December days are so short. One of these days I’ll have to get in some early Christmas shopping.
See you out there..
