Vasa Trail Cross Country Ski Report – 01/02

Skier perspective: The trail was in good shape yesterday (Friday). I cautiously took out the good skis and was not disappointed. Hard packed and smooth from lots of skiers. No need to walk out from the trailhead and was able to ski the bridge area (but it is thin there as usual).

The farther away from the trailhead, the more snow and fewer foot prints. Yes a few thin spots, particularly at power lines and crossings, but u can avoid these by paying attention. Even the Nip and Jack Pine Valley were in much better shape than a week ago. Still no classic tracks and it’s borderline for rock skis or good ones. A great way to start the new year, hope u can enjoy it!

And now from Groomer Glen this morning…

Good Morning Badgers,
It is 29 degrees at the trail head with no new snow. John and Mike have completed the 5k and 10k and are currently at the 9k post ( top of the wall ) on the 25k moving in a clockwise direction.

Although there is no new snow to work with and a very thin base, going over the surface will help rough up the hard pack a bit.
Looks like a dry week ahead with temps in the mid 30’s during the day. We will watch closely and groom when we believe that grooming would make skiing better without bringing up dirt and gravel.

Peace, Glen
