Noquemanon Trail Network Cross Country Ski Report – 01/22

Grooming January 22, 2021

Forestville: New snow yesterday and overnight totaled 6” to 8” at the Forestville trail head with higher totals closer to the Co Rd 510 trail head. Groomers will be out all day roll packing and grooming. Don’t expect classic tracks early in the day. Expect soft snow and blustery conditions. What a beautiful day.

Call for Rental Equipment: The equipment rentals at our Forestville Trailhead have been very popular this season. It has been great to see so many discovering skiing but the high use and required COVID sit period for boots occasionally leaves us in short supply. We could use extra classic and skate NNN boots, NNN classic no-wax skis or poles that you may have sitting around and would be willing to donate. Please drop off at Forestville any time 10-4 weekdays or 9-4 weekends. Thanks for your support!”

Bag pick up for virtual Noque begins Friday: Want to pick up your race packet this weekend (Jan 22nd-24th)?

Send an e-mail to noquemanoninfo@gmail.com by midnight on Wednesday Jan 20th with your first and last name and we will have your packet ready for you to pick up onsite at the NTN Forestville Trailhead this weekend. Pickup times will only be from 8am to Noon this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Pick up will not be inside the trailhead building per COVID restrictions and social distancing requirements.

Please note, the parking at Forestville is limited and the trailhead is open for normal public use. Please park like a sensible human being. If you arrive and the parking area is full you may need to try another time.

Noquemanon Ski Marathon Goes Virtual: Due to circumstances beyond anyone’s control, the 2021 Noquemanon Ski will be a 100% virtual event this year. See details at the race web site: http://www.noquemanon.com/ . Following this weekend’s snow the race committee will designate a course. Keep an eye on the above link for up to the minute details and the grooming report will include details and the link each day.

Fit Strip: Heavy new snow. Groomers will be out as soon as time permits.

Big Bay Pathway: Heavy new snow. Groomers will be out as soon as time permits Saux Head: Heavy new snow. Groomers will be out as soon as time permits.

Snow Bike Trails:

NORTH TRAILS

The main loop trails (Collinsville, Penstock, Blue Heron, Upper Blue Heron, Silver Lead & Peter’s Sandbox) along with Ramblin Man and Wildcat were groomed late Thursday night.

New snow ranged from 6-8” at the Forestville Trailhead down to 1-2” at the BLP Trailhead.

Volunteers will be out during the day on Friday to get the remaining trails as well as to deal with the drifting that is occurring in open areas.

South Trails Grooming:

Mike reported last night, “We will be grooming the SBR tomorrow (this) morning.”.

WTLGR: Were you outside when the front came through? You could see it coming across the lake on the north facing shores. A calm, sunny, off shore day switched in an instant. There is a literal and figurative sea change. Even deep in the woods you can feel the change. It is the kind of thing that sends the trout into (and, sadly, out of) a feeding frenzy or sends the birds to their nests. And now, suddenly, there is a hint of snow in the air and a rustling of the few oak leaves still extant. Today we are greeted with what the meteorologists call “seasonal” weather. Skiers and other winter enthusiast call, great weather and far too many call it “bad” weather. Here at Grooming Report Writer’s Guild Hall we eschew editorializing the on the weather. Remember, just like dogs; there is no “bad” weather. There are bad owners and bad clothing.

See you out there, Sondo
