XC Ski Headquarters Cross Country Ski Report – 02/24
These skiers brought their own marshmallows to roast over the bonfire!
After warm temps yesterday, the top layer of snow on the trails re-froze nicely overnight. After attempting to groom the Rolling Hills trail this morning, however, we discovered that the snow is wetter underneath the frozen top layer than works well for grooming. Thus, we will not be grooming the rest of the trails today in order to allow the wetter snow to dry out. Trails are still open, and there is plenty of snow, conditions will just be a little crusty this morning and then will give way to softer conditions during the day. We have 14-24+ inches of snow in the woods, and 6-10 inches packed on the trails.
COMING UP:
Sunday, Feb 28th: If you’re 19 or younger, join us for the 27th Annual Junior Muffin Race! The Junior Muffin Race this year will be a single skier freestyle race (instead of a relay as in years past). The course will be approximately 6km of rolling terrain. There are also Mini Muffin races for ages 11 and younger, with shorter distances. Awards will be given to top three females and males, and for best costumes! The Stone Turtle Cafe is open for outdoor dining, as well as 25% capacity indoor dining! Enjoy a grilled Pesto Perfection wrap with Great Lakes Chips and a pickle today by the fire!
