XC Ski Headquarters Cross Country Ski Report – 02/26

Welcoming the new Tidd Tech groomer, made in Wisconsin, to the grooming fleet! Now the grooming team will have the choice between the Ginzu and the Tidd Tech, depending on snow conditions.

Temps got cold again last night, which should make for another day of great skate skiing today! The grooming team is snow combing the entire system this morning, and attempting again to reset tracks with the new Tidd Tech groomer. The skating lanes are fast and fun, and not icy. The existing tracks are in OK condition after all the freeze/thaw action we’ve seen the last couple days, but most classic skiers yesterday skied outside the tracks and had a great time. We have 12-20+ inches of snow in the woods, and 4-9 inches packed on most of the trail surface. Some bits of debris are starting to show up on the Tall Pines trail, and in some other places under the big pines, which is typical for this time of year. Overall, there is plenty of snow on 99.9% of the trails, and lots to enjoy out there!

COMING UP:

Sunday, Feb 28th: If you’re 19 or younger, join us for the 27th Annual Junior Muffin Race! The Junior Muffin Race this year will be a single skier freestyle race (instead of a relay as in years past). The course will be approximately 6km of rolling terrain. There are also Mini Muffin races for ages 11 and younger, with shorter distances. Awards will be given to top three females and males, and for best costumes! Click here for more information – online registration is required.

Saturday, March 6th: Join us for Ribs & Blues! A favorite XC Ski HQ tradition, Ribs & Blues features an afternoon of fantastic live music from Rhett’s Eastside Blues Duo, as well as German Dave’s famous BBQ ribs. It’s a perfect day to hit the trails, then kick back by the outdoor fire pit and enjoy great music and outstanding ribs, scalloped potatoes, and coleslaw for $12 ($6 for kids 8 and younger).

The Stone Turtle Cafe is open for outdoor dining, as well as 25% capacity indoor dining! Enjoy one of our many consciously-crafted meals off of our menu, or bring your own picnic (just no BYO alcohol – head to the cafe for drinks of that nature!).
