XC Ski Headquarters Cross Country Ski Report – 02/27

Today is the last day to register for the Junior Muffin Race! All skiers 19 years old and younger are invited!

We received a dusting of snow last night, which will groom up nicely today. Groomer Mike is snow combing the skating lanes this morning. The tracks are fairly hard set and slick, but the bit of fresh snow will help this morning until it softens up later today. The skating lanes are fast and fun. We have 12-20+ inches of snow in the woods, and 4-8 inches packed on most of the trail surface. Some bits of debris are present on the Tall Pines trail, and in some other places under the big pines, which is typical for this time of year. Overall, it will be a very spring-like day out there, so best to ski early!

COMING UP:

Sunday, Feb 28th: If you’re 19 or younger, join us for the 27th Annual Junior Muffin Race! The Junior Muffin Race this year will be a single skier freestyle race (instead of a relay as in years past). The course will be approximately 6km of rolling terrain. There are also Mini Muffin races for ages 11 and younger, with shorter distances. Awards will be given to top three females and males, and for best costumes! Click here for more information – online registration is required.

Saturday, March 6th: Join us for Ribs & Blues! A favorite XC Ski HQ tradition, Ribs & Blues features an afternoon of fantastic live music from Rhett’s Eastside Blues Duo, as well as German Dave’s famous BBQ ribs. It’s a perfect day to hit the trails, then kick back by the outdoor fire pit and enjoy great music and outstanding ribs, scalloped potatoes, and coleslaw for $12 ($6 for kids 8 and younger).

The Stone Turtle Cafe is open for outdoor dining, as well as 25% capacity indoor dining! Have a sausage with sauerkraut for lunch today, alongside a German Hoffbrau Beer!

Ski early, then bask in the sunshine!

– Mariah, Stu, Bob, Lynne, Erin, Gill, Missy, Krista, Alex, Bradley, George, Mike, Butch, Will, Joel, Donnie, Josh, Josie, Annie, Lissa, Brian and the crew
