Vasa Trail Cross Country Ski Report – 02/27
If it’s true that there are Eskimo words for at least 50 types of snow, you likely skied on at least 20 of them if u we’re out between 7 and noon today.
I got out at 10:30 and was thrilled with the nice glide, by 11:15 things had bogged down to a crawl and it was herky jerky in the sun and shade transitions.
By the time I finished around noon the trail was pretty soft and slow. If you go out this afternoon, a t-shirt and light/medium long sleeve is plenty. No long Johns or long socks needed. These are springlike conditions so go soak up that vitamin D.
The trail has plenty of snow to withstand today’s sunny warm hit but the best skiing tomorrow will be before noon; before it warms up and the rain comes.
Still ok classic tracks but they’re getting shallow. The bridge is usually one of the first areas to turn to dirt so this pic shows it’s still covered at noon today but it’s getting icy.
Weird weather makes the trail forecasting tricky. Get out there while you can. 😉🤙🏽❄️

Good morning Badgers,
The crew xperienced a minor tech glitch in the woods this morning, and we apologize for the delayed report. You may have already discovered the fresh corduroy out on the Vasa!
Jim P and Jim D started grooming at 5am and renovated the skate lane on the 5k, 10k, Special K, Riley’s, and 25k loops. There are still some deep footprints and skier divots in places, primarily on the 5k. The Nipple and Jack Pine were not groomed.
Temperatures were around 25°F with a trace of new snow, which was not enough to set new classic tracks but may help smooth over any existing icy sections.
Overall, the trails turned out well. Get out there while you can. Warmer temperatures are forecast for next week, and additional grooming may not be possible. We'll keep you posted.

Good morning Badgers,
Brandon and Dave got an early start around 5:00 AM this morning with light snow falling and temperatures around 30°F.
They completed renovation work on the skate lane, covering the 5K, 10K, and 25K loops, as well as from Riley’s to the single track parking lot and in the 3K out to the post. Grooming wrapped up just recently.
There are still quite a few ruts and footprints throughout the trail system, especially near the trailheads. While some sections remain soft, overall the trail came together well and should provide a good experience.
