XC Ski Headquarters Cross Country Ski Report – 03/01

This Mini Muffin racer’s smile pretty much sums up the vibes of the whole day!

What a fabulous Muffin Race yesterday! A record 68 kids, ranging from age 2 to age 19, showed up and raced varying distances, most of them in costume! Conditions were fantastic, thanks to the herculean effort of our groomers, Mike and Butch Stockton. Congrats to all the kids for some great racing and excellent costumes, and a huge thanks to the parents and support crews for bringing them, and fostering a love of cross country skiing among our youth. It’s days like yesterday that we live for!!

Now for the trail report. Temps got quite cold after the warmth yesterday, and will remain cold today. Groomer Butch is snowcombing the skate lanes. It should be an awesome day for skate skiing! Classic tracks are in poor condition, but there is plenty of snow for classic skiers to get an edge in the skate lanes. We have 9-18+ inches of snow in the woods, and 3-7 inches packed on most of the trail surface. After the heavy winds last night and this morning, there will surely be some debris on the trails, so keep an eye out.

COMING UP:

Saturday, March 6th: Join us for Ribs & Blues! A favorite XC Ski HQ tradition, Ribs & Blues features an afternoon of fantastic live music from Rhett’s Eastside Blues Duo, as well as German Dave’s famous BBQ ribs. It’s a perfect day to hit the trails, then kick back by the outdoor fire pit and enjoy great music and outstanding ribs, scalloped potatoes, and coleslaw for $12 ($6 for kids 8 and younger).

The Michigan Cup Relays are Sunday, March 7th! Advance registration is required. Read all about it and sign up your relay team here!

The Stone Turtle Cafe is open for outdoor dining, as well as 25% capacity indoor dining. Warm up with a bowl of classic chili and a Bosco Stick in front of the field stone fireplace!

All the best,

– Mariah, Stu, Bob, Lynne, Erin, Gill, Missy, Krista, Alex, Bradley, George, Mike, Butch, Will, Joel, Donnie, Josh, Josie, Annie, Lissa, Brian and the crew
