Vasa Trail Cross Country Ski Report – 03/06

This is a pic at The Rock at 8:14 am today. Looks pretty darn good. I’m about to head out and will report back after.

This is the time of year when the more reports we can get, the better. It helps fellow skiers know if it’s worth going out and where there’s still good skiing. Feel free to share your experience here; today and for the rest of the season.

Here’s Groomer Glen’s report from the trailhead perspective…

Good Morning Badgers,

My skate ski of the 5k and 10k yesterday afternoon was very good. At 2:00 the trail had softened to allow for good control and speed. There are spots of hard ice ( keep your eyes peeled ) and dirt is starting to show, but it is all navigable especially if you can wait until late morning or afternoon to ski.

After skiing I renovated the skate lanes on the 5k, 10k, Special K and then out to the oil pad ( 10.5 k on the 25k ). There I turned around and went back past Timber Ridge to the 2k hill and did the 10k again. On returning to the barn I went back through the 5k. I finished up on the 3k to the split and back. I did not groom the bridge area or the 4k to the 10.5 k on the 25k.

Temps ranged from 36 degrees to 30 degrees during the 6 hours I was on the trail grooming. This allowed the machine to get into most surfaces and create a reasonable texture for a ski edge.

Temps are forecasted to be cooler than yesterday with less sun shine so it will take longer for the trail to soften today.

Peace, Glen…3/06/21…7:00 am
