Forbush Corner Cross Country Ski Report – 03/19

Saturday March 19- We will be closed today due to rain and soggy trails. The snowmaking loop is holding up well. Temperatures drop below freezing tonight, so we should be able to groom the loop tomorrow for our Ski for Ukraine event. Tomorrow looks like a nice day to ski.

Below is an email from a local skier with ties to Ukraine. We also have a regular skier with a son Ukraine.

To All.
I am first generation Ukrainian American. I have an Aunt and many cousins living in Lviv.
Unfortunately, I have contracted Covid, even though I’m vaccinated and boosted, I can’t attend the “Ski for Ukraine event”. I just want to thank you all for your support and generosity that you are showing for my homeland.
As I’m writing this email I’m having hard time seeing past the tears streaming from my eyes because my heart is hurting.
I just can’t thank you enough and my heart warms for the support and prayers that the Ski community has offered my homeland.
I and my family thanks you for your kindness and generosity.
Maria Iwaniec
Sunday Ski for Ukraine
Who: YOU!
When: Sunday, March 20, 2022
Where: Forbush Corner Nordic Cross Country Ski Center, Frederic, Michigan
Why: To provide an opportunity for the Nordic ski community to collectively show and offer monetary support to both the people and animals of Ukraine. (The founder and past owner of Forbush was a veterinarian)
What: Donation, social ski opportunity. Dress in your favorite ski outfit/outfit/favorite race bib (if you are a racer). Come prepared to ski classic or skate counterclockwise on the snowmaking loop (long or short) ideally with attendees you may not know well or at all. As with group hikes, ski at the pace of the slowest one in your group. Complete either the short or long loop with each person/small group you connect with. During your ski, chat together about some of your experiences Nordic skiing! We ALL have stories to share!
Please regroup often, and try to ski with others of a different ability level.
How:
Arrive at Forbush between 11:30 and 12:30. Proceed to the outdoor “donation table” by the yurt.
Donate to the
Ukrainian Red Cross (https://donate.redcrossredcrescent.org/…/~my-donation),
IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare) (https://secure.ifaw.org/united-states/emergency-ukraine,
or both! (Bring your own device and donation information to the table.)
Fashion your own donation flash from the ribbons/materials provided at the table and pin this to your ski outfit.
Find a ski mate or small group and have a “ sharing ski” together, where you can chat Nordic skiing! (why you started, how long you’ve skied, Nordic events/venues you’ve enjoyed, etc.)
Please remember to ski counterclockwise only! Regroup often! (Please also purchase a Forbush trail pass for $10. Thank you!)
Together, we can help Ukraine

FROM Forbush Corner Cross-Country Skiing >> Posting a day early so you can make your plans tomorrow!
We are entering our Holiday stretch. Open tomorrow, 9 to 5, December 26 through January 5th. Then back to normal, closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Trails are in good shape and there is snow in the forecast. The entire trail system is open, tracked throughout. We have been out clearing leaners and face slappers. Expect some thin spots and some tree debris in the wooded areas. Due to the weather forecast tomorrow for sleet/freezing rain, the man made snow loops might be the only grooming undertaken. #forbush #crosscountry #snowphotos #SkiMichiganPosting a day early so you can make your plans tomorrow!

FROM Forbush Corner Cross-Country Skiing >> We are getting positive feedback from skiers skiing our new Townline Rd reroute ( part of the Pines Loop post A to B ) that we worked on over the summer. It runs through land that was devasted by a fire in 1871. Therefore, we are going to name it the 1871 Fire Trail. Check out the burned stumps here and there as you cruise through. #forbush #SkiMichigan ... See MoreSee Less
