Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail Cross Country Ski Report – 02/25

We got 2-3" of fresh powder last night. The trail from Empire to Glen Haven was groomed yesterday with 2 classic tracks. It now has 2-3" of additional, soft powder on top. Good covering of snow EXCEPT near Glen Haven, where the wind has blown some of the snow off.

Today we groomed from Glen Haven to Glen Arbor. Then the North Trail from Crystal View Trailhead to the Lawr Farm (M-22 and Wheeler Road). Then all of Palmer Woods. 2 sets of classic tracks.

Tomorrow we plan to groom from DH Day to the Dune Climb.

Current Conditions:

Fresh, rather dense snow covering all of the lakeshore trails. Backcountry trails should all be good.

Dune Climb Sledding:
The Dune Climb looks great for sledding this weekend.

Backcountry ski and hiking trails (Old Indian, Platte Plains, Windy Moraine, Bay View, Good Harbor, Alligator Hill)

Fresh powder everywhere with a good base of 3-5"

Popular Hiking Trails (Empire Bluffs, Pyramid Point):

These trails should be good for hiking. As the temperatures rise above freezing, the snow will pack and get icy. I’d recommend bringing some Yak Tracks or Micro-spikes and hiking poles just in case you find the trails icy.
