XC Ski Headquarters Cross Country Ski Report – 03/05


Conditions are variable, but very much skiable!

Sunny blue skies made for great skiing yesterday, though the warmer temps and sun took their toll on the trails. Some bare spots are popping up in the open, sunny spots, but still passable on snow. Groomer Mike is attempting to snowcomb all the trails this morning, but with temps barely getting below freezing last night, results may be marginal. It will be another warm, sunny day, and so all the trails will be a bit slushy — better skiing in the morning, and the afternoon will be better for listening to Live Music on the Sun Deck with friends – Ditch Lily starts playing music at 2pm today. Trappers Cabin will be serving hot cocoa and hot dogs around the bonfire from 11am to 3pm today. The Stone Turtle Cafe is open, too – Get your fill of Pulled Pork BBQ, AuGratin potatoes, and cole slaw for lunch.

TODAY, Sunday, March 5th: Pulled Pork BBQ Lunch Special & Saturday Free Ski Lesson!
We’re keeping this late winter train rolling with a Pulled Pork BBQ lunch special at the Stone Turtle Cafe. Ski your heart out, then feast on a pulled pork sandwich with scalloped potatoes for lunch! Plus, learn how to cross country ski at our FREE beginner ski lesson, every Saturday at 10:30am throughout the ski season (snow permitting)! You will learn the basics of traditional (classic style) XC ski technique, plus hill climbing, descending, and turning. You will even learn how to get up when you fall down! Free lessons are limited to 25 people. Ski rentals are available at the rental desk on a first-come, first-served basis (we do not take rental reservations). The free lesson lasts 1 hour.

TODAY, March 5th, 2:00pm – 4:00pm – Live Music from Ditch Lily
This contemporary 4-piece band will play some tunes in the Stone Turtle Cafe for listeners. Grab some friends, food and drink and enjoy the music!

Saturday, March 11th, 10:30am: FREE Beginner Ski Lesson
learn how to cross country ski at our FREE beginner ski lesson, every Saturday at 10:30am throughout the ski season (snow permitting)! You will learn the basics of traditional (classic style) XC ski technique, plus hill climbing, descending, and turning. You will even learn how to get up when you fall down! Free lessons are limited to 25 people. Ski rentals are available at the rental desk on a first-come, first-served basis (we do not take rental reservations). The free lesson lasts 1 hour.

Sunday, March 12th: Michigan Cup Relays
Join us for one of the most exciting ski races in Michigan! This grand finale race for the Michigan Cup Race Series features a relay race with 3 skiers per team: 2 legs freestyle, and 1 classic leg. Each skier skis approximately 4-6km per leg. You do not have to be a Michigan Cup racer to participate! IF you do not have a team but would still like to ski, we will try to find a team for you. Registration starts at 9:30am, and the race starts at 11:00am. The entry Fee is $20 per racer. All race entrees score Team Points. After the Relays, stick around for the Michigan Cup awards ceremony, and enjoy a hearty post-race meal, and live music included with your registration fee. Each racer receives a commemorative pint glass! Click here to register!
