XC Ski Headquarters Cross Country Ski Report – 03/09
Groomer Mike snowcombed Manitou, Rolling Hills, Mackinac Cut, Wild Turkey, Trappers Cabin and Adventure Trails last night. Trappers Cabin has full coverage with man-made snow patched over any thin spots. However, the rest of the trails have bare patches in some of the open sunny spots which require skis to be portaged. 95% of the trails (between the bare patches) is still good skiing! Skiing will be better this morning before the sun warms up the snow again this afternoon. A few inches of new snow before the weekend could cover up all those bare patches, and MORE SNOW is in forecast for tonight and Friday morning, so cross your fingers! The Stone Turtle Cafe is open! Lots of great sale items in the shop as well for you late winter shoppers!
Upcoming Events:
Saturday, March 11th, 10:30am: FREE Beginner Ski Lesson
learn how to cross country ski at our FREE beginner ski lesson, every Saturday at 10:30am throughout the ski season (snow permitting)! You will learn the basics of traditional (classic style) XC ski technique, plus hill climbing, descending, and turning. You will even learn how to get up when you fall down! Free lessons are limited to 25 people. Ski rentals are available at the rental desk on a first-come, first-served basis (we do not take rental reservations). The free lesson lasts 1 hour.
Sunday, March 12th: Michigan Cup Relays
Join us for one of the most exciting ski races in Michigan! This grand finale race for the Michigan Cup Race Series features a relay race with 3 skiers per team: 2 legs freestyle, and 1 classic leg. Each skier skis approximately 4-6km per leg. You do not have to be a Michigan Cup racer to participate! IF you do not have a team but would still like to ski, we will try to find a team for you. Registration starts at 9:30am, and the race starts at 11:00am. The entry Fee is $20 per racer. All race entrees score Team Points. After the Relays, stick around for the Michigan Cup awards ceremony, and enjoy a hearty post-race meal, and live music included with your registration fee. Each racer receives a commemorative pint glass! Click here to register!
