XC Ski Headquarters Cross Country Ski Report – 12/06
While the snow is holding up remarkably well considering the lack of base and the warmer daytime temps (there is still snow in the trees!), conditions are fair to marginal. There are some really good stretches of full snow coverage where, if you let your mind wander, you might think it’s mid-winter. There are also many thin spots, and several bare spots – some you can still ski over and some which must be portaged. We think this kind of skiing is quite good and fun, but we realize that there are folks who would call us crazy for using such words! To us, if you’re going to go play outside (which you should), skiing on these conditions is better than hiking through snow and slush. That’s our take on the matter, but if you’re expecting to ski on long stretches of really nice snow, you may wish to wait until we get some more snowfall to ski… and instead, come shopping!
Luckily, excellent conditions prevail on the practice area, where manmade snow and natural snow combine for really nice conditions – snowcombing and set tracks make it ideal for demos and for technique work on good skis.
Stay tuned for the opening of the Stone Turtle Cafe on Saturday, December 16th! Check out our events below, and head to www.CrossCountrySki.com to browse Christmas gifts. Cheers and keep snow-dancing!
