XC Ski Headquarters Cross Country Ski Report – 03/15

Even though it did not get below freezing Friday night the ground had enough frost in it that the the snow was firm enough to groom and set tracks yesterday. This morning’s temperature at 7 am is 29F.

Thanks to snow doctors Steve and Gage we have a race course set up for this morning’s Muffin Race utilizing parts of the Trapper’s cabin, Adventure and Rolling Hills trails. The Mackinaw Cut is good and the snow doctors have built snow bridges on the bare spots on the Wild Turkey trail for skiers who are not racing. The Manitou, Tall Pines and Adventure trails have too many bare spots to be groomed and are recommend not to be skied on.

Even though the Muffin Race race is scheduled to start at 10:30 it may be a little later than that so the icy downhills can soften up with the rising temperatures. Groomer Henry will start grooming the Muffin Race course early this morning and then follow up with the Mackinaw Cut and Wild Turkey trails and finish with the Blizzard trail for the Junior Muffin Races to held after the Senior Muffin race. There will be a fine pulled pork luncheon for Racers & family after the Muffin races.
