The Homestead Snow Report – 12/20
Early Winter has felt a lot more like early Spring, and we’re longing for some sub-zero temperatures to create a winter wonderland again this year. Until then, though, we’re doing our best to make the most of a less than ideal situation. Like us, our guests will be busy and happy, and they’ll have lots of opportunities to make new memories with friends and family at The Homestead this year. We’ll keep the blog moving with lots of great ideas for family activities, but here are a few of the smaller events that we’re proud to feature this year.
* Live entertainment at Beppi’s, December 27th, 28th, and 29th, starting at 8pm-11pm. Stop by for a slice of pizza, a cold drink, and the musical stylings of some of our favorite Michigan bands.
* Guided Bike Tours, Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail December 27th and 29th 1pm-3pm Fitness enthusiasts will enjoy a guided bike tour of the new Heritage trail. The tour will go from the resort through Glen Arbor to historic Glen Haven on the 27th; and a bit further ont he 29th to the Dune Climb. $10 per person or $40 with full day bike rental.
* Guided Hikes, Bay View Trail December 28th and 30th Explore one the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore trails. A box lunch from Cavanaugh’s is included for $15 per person.
* Euchre Tournament, CQ’s December 27th, starting at 6pm. Long a favorite way to spend leisurely Winter days in Michigan, The Homestead is proud to host a tournament for everyone who loves this exciting game. The winning team will be given 2016-2017 season ski passes as a prize. Prizes for second place as well.
* Campfire and S’Mores, December 27th, 28th, and 29th. It’s a summertime classic here, and we’re sure it’ll be just as popular come winter. Join us from 6pm-7pm at Camp Tamarack.
* Wine & Food Pairing Seminar, Nonna’s December 30th from 3pm-5pm. Enhance your enjoyment of great food by learning the nuances of pairing meals with great wines. You’ll learn more about how to match complementary components, richness and textures of food and wine that will make your next dish sing. The cost is $35 per person and will include 6 1-oz pours of wine and 4 small plates of food. Tentative food menu to include course 1:Goat Cheese, course 2: Pasta alio-e-olio, Course 3: shrimp scampi course 4: Steak.
* Sip & Dab Painting Class, Beppi’s December 29th from 5pm-8pm. The Homestead have teamed up with Sip and Dab to create a social event that combines acrylic painting, sipping, eating and fun. Sip and Dab provides an artist, easel, brushes, paint, apron and canvas. The artist of the night will guide you through your painting step-by-step – absolutely no experience is necessary. This may be the first time you’ve painted since elementray art class, but now you can eat, drink and socialize. $35 per person. Additional food and wine a la carte.
* Cookie Decorating Station. Chefs young and old are invited to come to our cookie decorating station at Camp Tamarack on the 28th and 29th of December, from 12-1pm.
* Sip & Dab Painting Class for Kids, Camp Tamarack 1pm-3pm. Looking for a fun afternoon with the budding artist in your family? You’ve found it! A Sip and Dab artist will be on hand to help kids create their own artwork with acrylic painting. They will learn and have fun! Easel, brushes, paint, apron and canvas are provided. For kids under 8 years old, a parent must be present to help or sit and watch. Or, parents can join in the fun! $20 per person.
