XC Ski Headquarters Cross Country Ski Report – 11/20 – over 5 inches of snow – UPDATED

AFTERNOON UPDATE — The grooming update for today is that we have snow combed the 5+ inches of snow on the Blizzard trail, but with the warm ground and the high winds blowing the snow, it is not quite skiable just yet. The good news is that by compressing the snow we are helping the ground to freeze faster. The other good news is that it is still snowing today, and more snow is on the way this week, so we may have some decent skiing in time for Thanksgiving weekend!

Stay tuned to the ski report, and don’t miss the Thanksgiving Weekend Sale, starting this Friday!!

Winter weather showed up with a force yesterday, delivering over 5 inches of snow! This is enough to ski with rock skis on our Blizzard Trail and practice area.

We will make an attempt today to snow comb the Blizzard Trail, and will send a new ski report later today with results (fair warning; the ground may still be too warm underneath the snow for successful grooming). Most of our trails across the street are on state land and there are many hunters out there, so we recommend skiing in areas that do not have hunting until firearm deer season is over on December 1st.

Bob and Lynne, skiing the first tracks of the year!

Bob and Lynne skied yesterday after about 3 inches of snowfall, and while they found it to be a little sticky, it should be better today after a few more inches have fallen and after the ground stayed cold all night.

Forecast:

Today: Cloudy with snow showers mainly during the morning. High around 30F. Winds NNW at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of snow 70%. Winds could occasionally gust over 40 mph.

Tonight: Mainly cloudy. Low 22F. Winds NNW at 10 to 15 mph.

Monday: Partly cloudy skies. High 34F. Winds NW at 10 to 20 mph.

The extended forecast into this week shows temps below freezing every night, and snow starting back up on Wednesday and continuing to the weekend.
