XC Ski Headquarters Cross Country Ski Report – 12/09

We have received 4 to 5 inches of lake effect snow over the last 24 hours, and it continues to snow. We are forecast to receive another 2 inches today. Snow-maker George Frye made snow for the last two nights on the practice area, giving us a beautiful base of at least 6 inches after we pack it. Today we will commence packing and grooming the practice area, and we will also try to pack the Rolling Hills trail to see if this very fine snow will allow us to groom in the near future. It sure looks like a winter wonderland here in Higgins Lake!

Our practice area looks very moon-like at night!

Forecast:

Today: Snow showers. High 27F. Winds NW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of snow 50%. About one inch of snow expected. Heavier amounts in favored snowbelt locales.

Tonight: Occasional snow showers. Low 18F. Winds W at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of snow 50%. Snowfall around one inch. Heavier amounts in favored snowbelt locales.

Saturday: Cloudy. A few flurries or snow showers possible. High 23F. Winds W at 10 to 15 mph.
