XC Ski Headquarters Cross Country Ski Report – 12/26

Greetings from Higgins Lake! As of 6:45am it is 33F and drizzling but expected to stop precipitation by 10am. Ginzu Dana groomed all the trails yesterday morning when it was cold enough to pack the 2 inches of fresh snow from Friday night, preserving that snow, and making the trails much more resilient to today’s rain. A BIG Thank You to Dana for sacrificing a few hours of his Christmas for the sake of the trails!! The trails will be open for classic skiing only today. With the wet trails and forecasted mid 40s temps, for the sake of preservation, we will not be grooming and skating will not be permitted today. Luckily, these warm temps are only temporary, and the rest of the week will no see above 31F.

Forecast:

Today: Rain ending this morning. Breaks of sun in the afternoon. High near 50F. Winds SSW at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 90%. Winds could occasionally gust over 40 mph.

Tonight: Cloudy and windy this evening. A few snow showers possible after midnight. Low 23F. Winds WSW at 20 to 30 mph. Chance of snow 30%. Winds could occasionally gust over 40 mph.

Tomorrow: A few snow showers scattered about the area in the morning, otherwise a good deal of clouds. High 24F. Winds W at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of snow 30%.

The Stone Turtle Day Lodge lunch special is our famous house-made Chili (classic and vegetarian) and Bosco Sticks! As always, we will also be offering our normal selection of grilled paninis on Stone House bread, served with kettle cooked potato chips and a pickle!
