XC Ski Headquarters Cross Country Ski Report – 01/03

Yesterday’s trail conditions were even better than we expected. Despite the temps rising into the mid 30s yesterday afternoon, the snow never really softened. The skate lanes continue to be firm and smooth, and Ginzu Dana is snow-combing the skate lanes into a nice corduroy early this morning.

Classic tracks are in good condition on all trails, and were re-set yesterday on all trails except Manitou. We have a 7 to 8 inch packed base on the trails, and 12 to 14 inches of snow in the woods. In other good news, what was originally forecasted for rain today, has been reduced to a chance of drizzle turning into snow accumulation in the evening.

Forecast:

Cloudy with occasional rain showers. Temps nearly steady in the mid 30s. Winds light and variable. Chance of precipitation 50% becoming snow later.

Tonight: Intermittent snow showers, especially early. Low 18F. Winds WNW at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of snow 50%. Snow accumulations less than one inch. Winds could occasionally gust over 40 mph.

Tomorrow: Windy with occasional snow showers. High near 20F. Winds W at 20 to 30 mph. Chance of snow 50%. About one inch of snow expected. Winds could occasionally gust over 40 mph.

The Stone Turtle Day Lodge lunch special is a Pork Chop Sandwich. Of course there will also be famous house-made Chili (classic and chipotle veggie) and our regular selection of made-to-order panini sandwiches.

Check out our huge retail selection of cross country ski clothing, all of it on sale! Also, lessons and free demos are available every day. Call 800-832-2663 to schedule a lesson with Jim Bradley.
