XC Ski Headquarters Cross Country Ski Report – 01/10

Greetings from Higgins Lake! Yesterday’s skiing was absolutely fabulous for both skating and classic, with firm tracks and skate lanes and easy glide in mid 20s F.

As of 6:30am we have received another inch of overnight accumulation, and it is still snowing. Ginzu Dana is snow-combing the skate lanes early this morning, and will re-set the tracks if enough new accumulation calls for it. We are forecasted for up to three inches of snow today, but will turn to a wintry-mix by late afternoon when temps rise to upper 30s F, and so the best skiing will be before 3pm.

We now have a 9 to 11 inch packed base and 14 to 17 inches of snow in the woods.

Forecast:

Today: Snow this morning will give way to mixed winter precipitation in the afternoon. High 41F. Winds SSE at 10 to 20 mph. Snow accumulating 1 to 3 inches.

Tonight: Mixed winter precipitation this evening. Cloudy and windy overnight. Low around 20F. Winds WSW at 20 to 30 mph. Chance of snow 80%. Winds could occasionally gust over 40 mph.

Tomorrow: Cloudy with snow showers developing during the afternoon. Some mixed winter precipitation possible. High near 35F. Winds SSW at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of snow 50%. Snow accumulations less than one inch.

The Stone Turtle Day Lodge lunch special is the Classic Hammy Sammy! Oven roasted ham, swiss cheese, tomato and mustard, grilled to perfection on rustic sourdough bread. Served with kettle cooked potato chips and a pickle!
We have some excellent events coming up this week, including our first ever Women’s Wednesday Night Ski Tour from 5:00pm to 7:00pm this Wednesday, plus Full Moon Night Skiing on Friday, Silver Streak Week from Monday through Friday, and the Gourmet Mac ‘n Cheese Bar on Saturday and Sunday. View more info and our full event calendar here.

Hope to see you at HQ!
