Vasa Trail Cross Country Ski Report – 02/11
2:00 PM – Did the 25K loop counterclockwise starting around noon. After a few hundred ski racers the trail is still in very good shape. 98% of the trail has an inch or two of soft snow on top. It does get tricky at the bottom of hills with corners as all the ski traffic pushed the snow off to the side and exposed the icy base. A couple corners were pretty dicey but if you’re aware of this and your going that same direction, you can prepare and get thru it just fine.
By the time I was finishing up around 2pm it was softening up and slowing down a bit. Still a very good trail out there though.
Tomorrow is the classic ski race with start times from 9 – 9:45 am. There will be two sets of classic tracks groomed in so if u plan on skiing recreationally, please avoid skating on the course until after the last skier has finished. You can find out more about the race skej at www.vasa.org.
