XC Ski Headquarters Cross Country Ski Report – 12/16

We received another 2 inches of snow throughout yesterday morning, which was enough to enable Groomer Mike to snowcomb. It also filled in the classic tracks perfectly, and has given us great conditions for classic and skating on the premier trails: Rolling Hills, Mackinaw Cut, Wild Turkey, and Manitou. Tall Pines is still in fair to good condition, and Adventure is ungroomed and open for “back country” skiing and snowshoeing. As long time skier John Buiteweg said yesterday, “you went from rock skiing to perfect skiing in one week!”

Forecast:

Today: Snow showers this morning. Becoming partly cloudy later. High around 20F. Winds NE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of snow 40%.

Tonight: Partly cloudy skies. Low 11F. Winds light and variable.

Tomorrow: Cloudy. Flurries possible. High 28F. Winds SE at 5 to 10 mph.

Today’s Stone Turtle Day Lodge Cafe is the Rocky Mountain Chipotle Panini! Your choice of oven roasted turkey or homemade hummus and double provolone cheese, plus bell peppers, banana peppers, black olives, spinach, onion, tomato, and chipotle mayo on grilled Stone House 7-grain bread. Served with Great Lakes Potato Chips and a dill pickle! Classic and Veggie Chili are available, and are served with a multigrain roll and butter.
Today, Saturday, December 16th:

Come one, come all to visit the jolliest outdoorsman in the North Woods, Trapper Santa! Today from Noon until 3:00pm, children of all ages (including adults) are invited to ski or snowshoe to Trapper’s Cabin, where this rustic Santa will be tending the bonfire, serving up free hot cocoa and s’mores, and telling wintery tales. Bring your own skis or snowshoes, or rent for a nominal cost.

The Christmas sale is in full swing! Sweaters, gloves, hats, socks, snowshoes, skis, you name it – we have it and it’s on sale.

It’s a great weekend at XC Ski HQ!

-Mariah, Stu, Bob, Lynne, Fran, Matt, Kelsey, Alex, Dodge, Kim, Missy, Erin, Mike, Dana, Butch, Brian and the crew
