XC Ski Headquarters Cross Country Ski Report – 01/20

The John Deere Loop, which is composed of part of the Rolling Hills and Adventure trails, is still in very good shape with the mass of manmade snow we spread out along it this past week. We were able to set deep tracks, which are holding up quite well. Overall it is in very good condition for classic and skate skiing. Rolling Hills is also in good enough condition for B skis. Due to the slightly warm temps this morning, we will not be grooming, and the trail surface is still plenty smooth. The Manitou, Wild Turkey, Mackinaw Cut, Trapper’s Cabin, and Adventure are open for rock skiing today, but are likely better for snowshoes. The practice area still has plenty of coverage for ski demos and lessons.

Forecast:

Today: Sunshine and clouds mixed. High 41F. Winds W at 5 to 10 mph.

Tonight: Cloudy skies. Areas of patchy fog. Low near 25F. Winds light and variable.

Tomorrow: Mostly cloudy skies. Areas of patchy fog. High 41F. Winds light and variable.

Stop by and demo some skin skis! Free equipment demos are available all day, every day. The synthetic mohair bases on our skin skis get tremendous grip in these warmer temps! Our sale on XC ski packages and cross country ski clothing continues with great deals on Fischer, Salomon, Smartwool, and more.

Today’s Stone Turtle Cafe lunch special is Fire Grilled Pizza! Build your own gourmet flatbread pizza and have it grilled to perfection on our wood-fired Sun Deck barbeque pit. Choose from a variety of toppings to create your own pizza masterpiece, and enjoy the satisfying flavors of delicious fire cooked crust, savory sauce, bubbling cheese and fresh toppings. Mama Mia! Served from Noon until 3:00pm.

And don’t miss what’s going on Sunday, January 21st: Paella on the Sun Deck!

A favorite XC Ski HQ tradition, Paella on the Sun Deck celebrates the world-renowned and absolutely delicious rice dish that originates in Spain, and offers skiers a hearty, flavorful (and entertaining!) feast. Bob and Lynne learned the method from Paella chef master Ayo while visiting Nerja, Spain, and are excited to serve this traditional dish to hungry skiers at XC Ski HQ. Prepared in a massive cast iron pan over an outdoor fire pit, this lunch is almost as enjoyable to watch being cooked as it is to eat! Served piping hot with Saffron-spiced chicken, shrimp and vegetables, this dish will be presented in two seatings: 1:00pm and 3:00pm. Buen Provecho!

Come ski with us!
